ELECTROMAGNETIC TRANSIENT STUDIES

Performed the required studies for building small transmission and distribution systems, consisting of 22 230 kV and 115 kV substations in Ontario.

SSCI Screening Study of 200 MW wind farm, Alberta, Canada
  • CF POWER performed a SSCI screening study using the frequency scan technique to determine whether there are potential sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) frequencies at the point of the generation interconnection. Numerous scenarios, including the combination of line outages and different status of shunts (reactor, capacitor, and filter banks), were studied

  • CF POWER performed a SSCI screening study using frequency scan technique to determine whether there are potential sub-synchronous resonance (SSR) frequencies at the point of the generation interconnection. Numerous scenarios, including the combination of line outages and different status of shunts (reactor, capacitor, and filter banks), were studied.
  • CF POWER also validated the SSCI phenomenon by performing a detailed time-domain analysis to determine the effectiveness of the proposed mitigation methods.
Voice Radio system, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, and Protection & Control (P&C) system Review, Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC)
  • The NTPC is working to improve power system reliability and minimize the frequency of power system outages. Ensuring the effectiveness of P&C, voice radio communications and SCADA systems will contribute greatly to improving reliability and minimizing outage frequency.
  • CF POWER assisted in the review of NTPC P&C, voice radio communication, and SCADA systems with a focus on current NTPC system performance and what has been done in the system to date. The objectives are to determine if system reliability has been improved by what has been done, determine what is missing, determine what could be improved, and recommend what investments, if any, would be appropriate in the 20-year timeframe.
